H.A.W.K (K Band)
Kustom Electronics, Inc.
CPL Approved.
OPERATION
- multi-piece K band radar
-- forward and rear facing antennas
-- processor / display unit with wired remote
- stationary or moving mode
- measures on-coming or same-lane traffic
-- can track targets traveling in same lane/direction
- Instant On or continuous
- Audio Doppler (Target)
- Manual-lock (Speed)
- stopwatch mode
Operator inputs distance between objects (known in advance), and pushes a button when a target passes each object (radar calculates time between button pushes); radar computes target speed from distance (known) divided by time (button pushes); and displays target speed and time (to travel between objects). Radar does not transmit in this mode.
-- target window displays calculated speed
-- patrol car window displays time from operator inputs (LOCK/RELEASE switch)
-- distance set with THUMBWHEEL switches
CONTROLS
- Range Control
- Manual-lock (Speed)
- Mode switch
- Volume (audio target Doppler tone)
- Audio Squelch -- squelch target Doppler audio tone
- Test -- test lights, timing circuits, and transmit frequency
- others?
DISPLAYS / INDICATORS
- Display -- Target Speed
stationary: 15 to 199 mph
moving mode: max closing speed 199 mph
same lane/direction target
-- speed difference (between radar and target) must be between 3 and 25 mph.
- Display -- Patrol Car Speed
15 to 80 mph (99 mph max)
- speaker -- tone equal to target Doppler frequency
- Display Messages
rF -- RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) present
Lo V -- low voltage (operation inhibited)
Er-- frequency drift (out of spec) or failure (operation inhibited)
JA -- STANDBY mode only, radar detects jamming signal from another transmitter
INTERNAL FUNCTIONS
- Auto Calibration - automatically checks crystal oscillators every 50 ms (0.05 sec).
- automatically clears displays when operator changes mode.
- speed displays automatically adjust brightness to lighting conditions
