Police radars are available with various capabilities and options. Most police use radars (and lidars) approved by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and listed on their Conforming Product List (CPL).
The IACP approves radars and lidars that meet or exceed minimum technical specifications set by it's Enforcement Technology Advisory Technical Subcommittee (ETATS), the US Department of Transportation (US DOT), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Approved radars are listed on the IACP's Conforming Product List (CPL). Radars and lidars on the CPL are eligible for purchase using Federal highway safety grant funds.
